Do you have any large rocks in your yard? I have gathered some from my parents and friends houses. Yes I ask if I can take their rocks. I use them as fillers and borders in my gardens. Sometimes on rainy days I take Jarren out and we lift up rocks and catch worms. We put them in the compost basket, which should be equivalent to worm heaven. They can live happily there till I dump the compost on my garden this fall and then be happy with the roots there.
If you are really desperate for worms put a big piece of cardboard over the grass till it is all dead and then peel it back. You get great worm tunnels exposed that way. The worms usually run away though.

Okay, that "new" park looks great!

I think the worms aren't prolific in our yards because of the summer heat and dryness. We're planning on adding lots of shade to our yard to encourage worms to stay. Anyhow, that's my theory.
